The Hampta Pass trek is a breathtaking journey through one of Himachal Pradesh’s most
diverse landscapes. It connects the lush greenery of Kullu Valley with the rugged, barren
terrain of Spiti Valley, offering trekkers a unique contrast of scenery. The route includes river
crossings, alpine meadows, glaciers, and panoramic mountain views. The highlight of the
trek is crossing the Hampta Pass (4,270m), which provides stunning vistas of the Pir Panjal
and Spiti ranges.

 

Best Time to Visit

Ideal Season: Mid-June to September
Why? This period offers clear trails, lush green landscapes, and favorable weather
conditions. Late-season trekkers may also experience fresh snowfall, adding to the
adventure.

Day 1: Manali (2,050m) to Jobra (2,900m) – Trek to Chika (3,100m)

Drive Distance: 16 km (~1 hour)
Trek Distance: 2 km (~2 hours)
Highlights: Scenic drive through pine forests, easy trek along Rani Nallah, campsite in lush
meadows

Day 2: Chika to Balu Ka Ghera (3,600m)

Trek Distance: 6 km (~5 hours)
Highlights: Walk along the river, stunning valley views, first glimpses of Hampta Pass,
camping near a riverbed

Day 3: Balu Ka Ghera to Hampta Pass (4,270m) – Trek to Shea Goru (3,900m)

Trek Distance: 8 km (~8 hours)
Highlights: Challenging ascent to Hampta Pass, breathtaking views, steep descent into
Shea Goru’s high-altitude desert

Day 4: Shea Goru to Chatru (3,200m) – Drive to Chandratal (4,270m)

Trek Distance: 6 km (~5 hours)
Drive Distance: 70 km (~3 hours)
Highlights: Trek through the stunning Spiti Valley, visit the mesmerizing Chandratal Lake
(subject to road conditions), camp near Chatru

Day 5: Drive from Chatru to Manali

Drive Distance: 70 km (~5 hours)
Highlights: Scenic drive via Atal Tunnel or Rohtang Pass, return to Manali by afternoon
